As a Geographer I am very proud to say that today I will be representing PhD2Published at the Royal Geographical Society Annual Conference. I have been asked to be on the panel for the Postgraduate Forum Annual Conference Training Symposium (PGF-ACTS). The purpose of the postgraduate forum is outlined below:
The RGS-IBG Postgraduate Forum represents postgraduates in the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). It fosters communications among postgrads; provides information about events, activities and funding; and offers support and opportunities for postgraduates to further develop their professional skills and credentials.
This years training symposium is split into two parts:
Communicating Research:
The first session on ‘Communicating Research’ will be led by Klaus Dodds (Editor, The Geographical Journal) and Kevin Ward (Editor, Area).
Klaus and Kevin will discuss their expert tips on presenting, writing for various audiences but critically, how to get published in geography. Given their positions as editors of two of the most eminent geography journals, this session will provide you with the unique opportunity to engage with their breadth of expertise on publishing in geography and ask direct questions in a supportive workshop environment. This session will include practical and useful exercises related to getting your research published.
The second looks at
Careers After Your PhD
The second workshop will be a combination of presentations and panel discussion. There will be opportunities for Q&A with all presenters and panellists.
Confirmed speakers for this session include:
- Peter Jackson (University of Sheffield)
- Gail Davies (University College London)
- Kate Amis (Royal Geographical Society (with IBG))
- Alison Gardiner (Investec)
- Sarah-Louise Quinnell (PhD2Published/King’s College London)
To support the Postgraduate Forum Training Symposium this week PhD2Published will feature posts from Professors Kevin Ward and Klaus Dodds on how to get published in books and journals respectively. Along with a post-conference blog from me reflecting on the session and offering some useful hints tips and advice on publishing online. There will also be a post on networked researcher on creating an online professional identity.
